McCree Named LSWA Player of the Week
Dec. 5, 2016
RUSTON – After posting two double-doubles this past week, Louisiana Tech redshirt senior Erik McCree was tabbed as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
The first of the two came in an overtime loss to the Cal Bears in Berkeley with an 11-point, 11-rebound effort. With 17 seconds to go in regulation, he scored a driving layup that tied the game up at 57-57 and ultimately sent it into the extra frame.
The power forward followed that up with a career night against Southeastern Louisiana, recording a career-tying 33 points and a career-high 18 rebounds (most by a Bulldog since 2011) in a convincing 88-59 victory over the Lions.
In the process, he became the 39th Bulldog in program history to reach 1,000 career points.
For the week, he shot 14-of-30 from the field for 47 percent and 5-of-9 from three-point range for 56 percent. He also totaled four blocks on the defensive end while holding the two opponents to an average of 63.5 points per game.
Players were nominated by their school’s respective sports information directors and selected by a statewide panel of media members. This is the first LSWA weekly award selected for the 2016-17 season.
After Monday night’s contest against Alcorn State, McCree will lead the ‘Dogs down south to take on Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday, Dec. 10. Tipoff is set for 7:15 p.m.
