RUSTON – Highlighted by a 30-point scoring performance this past Saturday against Louisiana-Lafayette, senior guard Alex Hamilton was selected as the Conference USA Player of the Week.
For the week, Hamilton averaged 24.0 points per game while shooting 62.5 percent from the field (15-24) in a pair of Bulldog wins. He also averaged 7.0 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 2.5 steals.
Hamilton shot a season-high 80 percent (8-10) from the field against LSU-Shreveport, registering a game-high 18 points in a convincing win over the Pilots.
The nation’s second longest home winning streak (36) continued on Dec. 12 as the Chipley, Florida native flirted with a triple-double with a season-high 30 points to go along with 11 rebounds, eight assists and three steals in a 91-79 win over ULL. It marked the fourth time that the senior has scored at least 30 points in a single game in his career.
Meanwhile on the other end, Hamilton helped lead a defense that held the Ragin’ Cajuns to 79 points. ULL came into the game with the second highest scoring offense in the country, averaging 91.8 points per game.
The Bulldogs improved to 8-1, the best start to the regular season since 1989. This was the first C-USA Player of the Week honor of the season for Hamilton and the fifth of his career.
Hamilton will lead the Bulldogs into SEC territory on Tuesday night, facing Ole Miss at 6 p.m. on the SEC Network.
