Second Crack at ACC Opponent for @LATechHoops
Dec. 22, 2014
RUSTON - Louisiana Tech takes its second crack at an Athletic Coast Conference opponent on Tuesday night in a 6 p.m. CT contest against the Wolfpack of North Carolina State inside the PNC Arena.
The matchup comes just nine days after LA Tech (8-3) faced its first ACC opponent of the season in Syracuse and can be seen on ESPN3 with Patrick Kinas and Stan Lewter calling the action.
Fans can access live audio of the game via the Internet by subscribing to LA Tech All-Access at LATechSports.com. The contest can be heard live on the LA Tech Sports Network on KXKZ 107.5 FM (Ruston), KJVC 92.7 FM (Mansfield) and KTKC 92.9 FM (Springhill). The "Voice of the Bulldogs" Dave Nitz will call the play-by-play.
After dropping the two-point decision to the Orange, the Bulldogs returned home to end a two-game losing skid with a 79-54 victory over Nicholls State.
The `Dogs full-court press was at its best against the Colonels, forcing 27 turnovers which turned into 42 points. The 27 forced turnovers were a season-high and the most since Nov. 19, 2011 when they turned UT Arlington over 27 times.
Not only was LA Tech in a ball-stealing mood, they were also in a sharp-shooting mood making 15 three-pointers on 30 attempts. The 50 percent shooting from beyond the arc was the most in Bulldog history when shooting at least 30 attempts.
Xavian Stapleton was one of the Bulldogs that got in on the three-point shooting act, making a team-high five. He finished with 18 points, the most by a true freshman since Dec. 31, 2012 when Alex Hamilton scored 20 against New Mexico State.
LA Tech will try to mimic this performance and that of NC State's (9-3, 1-0 ACC) last opponent West Virginia which forced the Wolfpack over 23 times and shot over 50 percent from three.
It will be a tough task though against an NC State program has gone to the NCAA Tournament the past three years and is 9-1 at home this season.
Much like LA Tech, NC State is led by a three-guard attack with Trevor Lacey, Ralston Turner and Anthony Barber combining for 44 points per game. Lacey leads the team and currently ranks second in the ACC with 17.8 points per game.
The battle of the boards will be crucial once again with the two teams being polar opposites when it comes to rebounding. LA Tech comes in with a -8.4 rebounding margin while NC State sports a +8.0 margin.
This will be the first ever meeting between the two programs.
