Lanier Goethie enters his first season in 2016 as Louisiana Tech's linebackers coach after spending four years at Delta State.

In his four years at Delta State, Goethie served as linebacker's coach and recruiting coordinator and was eventually promoted to defensive coordinator.

During those four seasons, Goethie's linebackers developed a reputation for wreaking havoc in their opponent's backfields. In 2014 the Statesmen's 119 tackles for loss led all Division II schools, with 49 of those coming from the linebacker position. In that season, three Statesmen linebackers finished in the top-five of the Gulf Coast League in tackles for loss. Delta State also ranked second in the GCL with 39 sacks with the linebackers accounting for half of those.

Goethie worked directly with two first team all-GCF at Delta State linebackers in Rory Island and Wilson Curtis. Island was also named first team all-region.

Prior to his stint at Delta State, Goethie spent the 2011 season as an outside linebacker's coach and recruiting coordinator at North Greenville University. In that lone season, he helped lead North Greenville to their first Division-II playoff appearance in school history.

Goethie also served two years as the Defensive Graduate Assistant for Ole Miss, helping to coach the Rebels to a 2010 Cotton Bowl win. During those two seasons, Goethie broke down game film, worked with the defensive line and helped to coordinate recruiting efforts.

Goethie worked as an Academic Counselor in Ole Miss' Office of Student-Athlete Academic Support from 2007-08. During this time, he earned a M.S. Ed in Higher Education Administration.

A standout player at Ole Miss and a Baxley, Georgia native, Goethie amassed 178 total tackles in his four years as a linebacker in the Red and Blue (1999-2002) and served as a team co-captain as a senior. The 2002 Chucky Mullins Courage Award recipient, Goethie graduated from Ole Miss in 2003 with a B.A. in Marketing.

He is married to the former Keonna Starks, who is also an Ole Miss graduate.
