Louisiana Tech Head Coach Sonny Dykes

Opening statement
“We knew coming in that we were going to get a good shot from Texas State. I was really impressed with their offense. They did a really good job of keeping us off-balance all night. We knew that we just had to string a couple of drives together, and this team has done that all year. It hasn't always been pretty, but we've won a lot of football games. It was a good win.”

On how close the game was
“We've had a lot like this. It was just hard to get off the field on defense. When they're scoring like they were, it's hard to have a whole lot of confidence. Obviously we've got to play better and get better. We know we'll have our hands full against next week.”

On the play of the offense
“I thought we ran the ball well. I thought our offensive line did a pretty good job playing physical. The deal for us has been not turning the ball over and we did that again tonight. When you execute at the level we've executed at, you're a pretty tough football team to beat. I think our guys realized that we needed to score almost every possession.”

On the play of the defense
“We let them convert way too many third downs, and we didn't get any turnovers. That's something that we have been doing all year is creating turnovers and getting off the field, but we haven't the past two weeks now.”

On the offense not turning the ball over
“That's huge, We can't have the opponent have extra possessions. Not turning the ball over keeps our offense on the field.”

On Cameron's passing record
“He's done a great job of taking care of the ball. When you do that, there's so many people involved - the protection up front, it's receivers catching the ball, its running backs catching the ball and a lot of it is Colby being accurate. It's a streak we're going to need to keep alive.”

Texas State Head Coach Dennis Franchione

Opening statement
“What a game. It seems like it lasted a year in a half. It was a long one, but I’m really proud of our players. I thought they played and fought their tails off. We took the 18th ranked team down to the end. In retrospect, we punted there with eight minutes to go. Maybe we should have gone for it on fourth down to upset a team like that. We got some stops in the second half so that was better. I thought Shaun (Rutherford) and Marcus (Curry) played a heck of a game and Brad (Miller) made a lot of touchdown passes. The guys did a lot of good things we just got a little ways to go.”

On getting into a shootout
“That wasn’t the plan necessarily. I think we felt that their pass defense was vulnerable and we had good shots in the past games with them. I felt like we could run the ball. When you go from last week making 158 yards, as a coach you’re struggling a little bit to find out what we can put our hand on and say whether or not we’re going to be able to this or that. Nothing really changed, our guys just started scoring. We just missed a serve or two and that cost us.”

On penalties
“We are our own worst enemy. Sometimes our margin for victory is small and we extended drives with penalties sometimes a time or two. We could take seven or eight of those off the board and maybe that will help us win the football game. Until we learn how to overcome those things, we can’t beat a ranked team in the nation.”

Texas State Quarterback Shaun Rutherford

On how to fix third down conversions heading into Navy
“We struggle on third down. We focus on that a lot. Last year we weren’t too good on third down so we work on that at every practice to make sure we stay on the field for third down in order to help our defense as much as we can.”

On work he puts in as part of being a leader
“ Right now, being Texas State has been our worst enemy. Every week we focus on eliminating our mistakes. We are getting better at it somewhat, but it does need to clean up quickly.”

Tight End Bradley Miller

On his performance
“Like coach said, you have to prepare for your opportunities or else it will embarrass you. I think the whole team was prepared for this game but I guess tonight was just my night. I have to thank my team because we all played a heck of a game.”

On what fans should take away from the game
“We are here. We can go toe to toe with any team. We put in the work and we proved that tonight.”

Running back Marcus Curry

“Yeah we believed until it said 0:00.”

On trying to become bowl eligible
“We can win three in a row. We have to play as a team, play as one and minimize our mistakes. If we can do that, we will be alright.”
