RUSTON-- For the first time since the 2008 Independence Bowl the Louisiana Tech football team strapped on full gear Thursday finishing up the third day of spring practice.
According do head coach Derek Dooley it was a typical first day of pads for the Bulldogs.
"Every first day of pads it seems like no matter how good of condition you get yourself in you're still not truly in condition for pads," said Dooley. "The only way to truly condition yourself for football is to play football with all the gear on."
From here on out the Bulldogs will continue to strap it up and continue the up tempo, physical practices.
"It comes down to two things," said Dooley. "You have to be able to carry the weight and run with pads on and conditioning your body to do that takes time. The second thing is to bring in the physical element of football and the only way to do that is to run and hit a lot with pads and that's what we intend to do."
Louisiana Tech returns to the practice field again for practice number four this Saturday as they look to build on the first day of full contact drills. All practices are closed to the general public.
