RUSTON, La. - The coaches have divided and the friendly trash talk began Thursday as the staff drafted the teams for Saturday's T-Day Spring Game at Joe Aillet Stadium.
It will be Red vs. Blue Saturday with a lot on the line in the team's final scrimmage; the losing team will hold a car wash later this spring, washing the winning team's cars with the money raised from all other cars washed being donated to a charity.
"We are all competitive by nature," defensive coordinator Manny Diaz said of the friendly trash talk. "After the monotony of spring practice for a month, we are all looking forward to the game and another `team' we will be competing against."
Diaz will be leading the "Red Machine" and will be assisted by Ronnie Bradford, Matt Moore, Tim Rattay and Jabbar Juluke while the "Blue Dogs" will be coached by Tony Petersen, assisted by Joe Sloan, Oscar Giles and Blake Baker.
"Especially for the new coaches coming in and learning the personnel, to be able to pick and choose you see how guys have stepped up over spring and how the coaches value them on their side of the ball and the other side of the ball. It gives you a good idea of who you want to go to battle with. That is always an exercise in finding out who you think can play," Diaz said about the draft.
Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. with the northwest gates of Joe Aillet Stadium opening at 11 a.m. Face Painting with the Regal Blues and Cheerleaders will be available on the west concourse at the Kids Zone while the LA Tech Ticket Office will be on hand as open season ticket seats will be marked throughout the West Stands.
