RUSTON - Junior quarterback Donald Allen led both touchdown drives capping each with a scoring toss as the White Team downed the Blue Team 10-9 Saturday evening at Joe Aillet Stadium in Louisiana Tech's annual spring game, "Bone Bowl II." In a game that was pretty much controlled throughout by both defenses, Allen was one of the big offensive sparks as the New Orleans, La., native and one of three Bulldog signal callers fighting for the starting position this fall completed 14 of 20 passes for 223 yards and the two touchdowns. However, Allen wasn't the lone Tech quarterback that posted impressive numbers as Matt Kubik completed 12 of 16 passes for 133 yards and Zac Champion connected on 9 of 16 passes for 68 yards. None of the three quarterbacks threw an interception. Despite the descent numbers posted by the Tech quarterbacks, both defenses played extremely well combining to record 13 sacks in the contest, including three each by defensive lineman Travon Brown and linebacker Robert Burrell and two each by linebacker Jeremy Hamilton and linebacker Phillip Fontenot. Red-shirt freshman kicker Zach Myatt got the Blue Team on the scoreboard first, hitting a 36-yard field goal that capped an 8-play drive that was highlighted by Allen's 24-yard pass to wide receiver Eric Newman, who led all wide outs with seven receptions for 109 yards. The White Team answered a few possessions later as Allen tossed his first touchdown of the evening, a 20-yard inside screen to Tramissian Davis who received some nice blocking and outran the defenders to the left corner of the end zone. Myatt's extra point gave the White a 7-3 advantage. Myatt's second field goal of the day, a 44-yarder that capped a 6-play drive, upped the White Team's lead to 10-3. On that drive Kubik hit wide receiver Julius Cosby on a nice 22-yard pass and catch over the middle, setting up the field goal attempt. On the final offensive possession of the game by the Blue Team,, Allen led them on a five-play, 70-yard drive capped by a 20-yard touchdown strike to sophomore Johnathan Holland. The big play of the drive was a 46-yard strike from Allen to Newman on the first play. After the touchdown, the Blue Team went for two but Allen was sacked in the backfield to end the game. In addition to his three sacks, Burrell led all Tech defenders with 10 tackles followed by Byron Santiago with eight, Brannon Jackson with six and Anthony Crosby with six.
