RUSTON, La. -- During the Football Bulldogs' home opener against Southern University Sept. 8, Louisiana Tech Athletics will celebrate the first 50 years of football at Joe Aillet Stadium when the University honors the top 50 Bulldogs to ever play at the stadium.

Joe Aillet Stadium opened in 1968 and the 2017 season marked the 50th played in the facility that has seen more than $40 million in new construction and renovations during the past four years.

As part of the celebration of the first half-century of games at the stadium, the Louisiana Tech Athletics Department will release the greatest 50 players to ever step foot on the field while wearing the red and blue.

Thirty-two of the 50 slots are already filled by players who were named to the Bulldog Football All-Century Team in August of 2001. The all-century team honored the 50 greatest players from the first 100 years of Louisiana Tech football regardless of position chosen by an anonymous 20-member committee comprised of former Bulldog coaches, players and administrators.

The 32 All-Century Team players that will be included on the 50th Anniversary team are Doyle Adams, Ron Alexander, Larry Anderson, Myron Baker, Mike Barber, Chris Boniol, Terry Bradshaw, Roger Carr, John Causey, Randy Crouch, Fred Dean, Matt Dunigan, Troy Edwards, Doug Evans, Roland Harper, Walter Johnson, Doug Landry, Chad Mackey, Charles McDaniel, Joe McNeely, Jerry Pope, Tim Rattay, William Roaf, Johnny Robinson, Billy Ryckman, Glenell Sanders, Tommy Spinks, Matt Stover, Pat Tilley, Roy Waters, John Henry White and Wenford Wilborn.

LA Tech fans have the opportunity to vote for 18 additional players out of a group of more than 70 nominated based off of criteria such as all-conference awards and honors, all-America status, NFL experience, LA Tech Hall of Fame induction and production in the Tech record books (fans will also have the opportunity to write in votes for any players not included on the list of nominees). Fans have 10 days to participate in the vote that will end on May 30.

Tech will announce the final group of 50 in early June.
