Louisiana Tech Announces a Pair of Future Non-Conference Football Games
July 28, 2010
RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech athletics director Bruce Van De Velde and head football coach Sonny Dykes announced the addition of two future non-conference football games in the coming years for the Bulldogs. LA Tech will play at Ole Miss in 2011 and at Illinois in 2012.
The game at Ole Miss, scheduled for Nov. 12, 2011, takes the place of what originally had been slated to be a Western Athletic Conference game against Boise State. With the Broncos leaving the WAC beginning in the 2011 season, all WAC teams are in need of scheduling one more game that season. The game at Ole Miss will be a guarantee game with Louisiana Tech receiving $825,000.
That game almost completes the 2011 schedule for Louisiana Tech with Tech looking for one more home game to be filled on Sept. 10. Houston highlights the home non-conference schedule in 2011 with home conference games against Hawai’i, New Mexico State and San Jose State also on the slate.
"We were scheduled to play a home game in 2011, but with Boise State leaving and it only being one year out from the season we have been unable to find a home game," said Van De Velde. "However, we feel like the game at Ole Miss is a good regional game that our fans will be able to easily travel to. Financially, it also helps us bridge a challenging budget time that is occurring right now."
The Bulldogs have also scheduled a 2012 game at Illinois set on Sept. 22. Louisiana Tech will receive a guarantee of $775,000 for the game against the Fighting Illini, set to be played in recently renovated Memorial Stadium.
LA Tech kicks off the 2010 season on Sept. 4 in the Community Trust Bank Port City Classic against Grambling at Independence Stadium in Shreveport. Tickets for the game are still available and can be purchased from the Louisiana Tech Ticket Office by calling (318) 257-3631.
