LA Tech To Welcome Players to Camp Sunday

Aug. 8, 2009

RUSTON - Head coach Derek Dooley and Co. will welcome 95 players to campus Sunday as the Bulldogs set to open fall camp Monday in preparation for their Sept. 5 road opener at Auburn.

The 2008 Independence Bowl champion Bulldogs return 16 starters from last year's team that posted an 8-5 mark and defeated Northern Illinois 17-10 at Independence Stadium in Shreveport on Dec. 28, the program's first bowl victory since 1977.

"Training camp always brings a renewed spirit to the players and coaches," Dooley said. "It signifies that true beginning of a new season, and whatever success or failures that occurred in the past are now ancient history."

Sunday will serve as a day of orientation for the Bulldogs as the team will check-in to the dorms in the morning, hold a team meeting with coaches and support personnel in the early afternoon, get fitted for equipment and undergo physicals.

The Bulldogs will hold their first practice Monday, with the veterans working out in the middle of the afternoon and the newcomers taking the field that evening. It will be the first of three days of split sessions before the entire team practices as a unit for the first time on Thursday.

LA Tech opens its 2009 season Sept. 5 at Auburn at 6 p.m. in a game that will be televised on ESPNU. The Bulldogs home opener is set for Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. against Nicholls State.

Season tickets are on sale and can be ordered by logging onto or by calling 318-257-3631.

Tech fans can also sign up their children for the LA Tech Kids Club. For only $30, LA Tech Kids Club members receive free admission to all Louisiana Tech home regular season sporting events for the year along with additional benefits such as a club t-shirt and membership ID and neck lanyard.

LA Tech fans will also have an opportunity to meet the 2009 Bulldogs as well as this year's Lady Techster volleyball and soccer teams at the Fall Fan Fest on Sunday, Aug. 16 at 4 p.m. at the Thomas Assembly Center.
