Tech Practice Report No. 11

RUSTON ? In anticipation of Saturday morning?s scrimmage, Louisiana Tech head coach Jack Bicknell decided to only use one of his two scheduled practices Friday as the Bulldogs conducted a 90-minute morning workout at the Jim Mize Track and Field Complex.

The Bulldogs hit the practice field in uppers as the seventh-year Bulldog Boss decided to try to keep his players as fresh as possible for Saturday?s 8:00 a.m. scrimmage.

?I told them last night that if they came out this morning and gave it everything they had then we would only practice once today,? Bicknell said. ?I would call this practice typical for this stage of camp. You have to find a way to push the guys through it. I would have liked more intensity. I thought the effort was there for the most part, we just didn?t seem to have that extra energy I was hoping to see.?

The final 20 minutes of Friday morning practice was used for two-minute drill as the Bulldog defense dominated, keeping the Tech offense off the scoreboard. Cornerbacks Delone Williams and Lee Brown each registered an interception during the two-minute drill while kicker Danny Horwedel misfired on a 38-yard field goal.

Bicknell said that Saturday?s scrimmage is critical for the Tech coaching staff in determining depth chart movement, especially for some of the younger players.

?We are just trying to see some of these younger guys in real-game action,? Bicknell said. ?This will be our only chance to do that before Florida.?

News and Notes: Saturday?s scrimmage is part of Family Day at Tech as the Bulldog players and coaches will remain on the field following the event to interact with Tech fans ? Quarterback Nick Worzel, wide receiver Shane Womack, offensive lineman Ryan Snell, tight end Anthony James, linebacker Robert Burrell, linebacker Brian White and defensive lineman Wendell Crowe were all held out of Friday morning?s session.
