RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech head coach Skip Holtz announced the 2013 team captains and that four walk-ons would receive scholarships after its team practice Tuesday afternoon.

The team captains for the 2013 season will be defensive end IK Enemkpali, offensive guard Matthew Shepperd and wide receiver/return specialist D.J. Banks.

In addition, four walk-on players on the team will receive scholarships for the 2013 season. Those players receiving scholarships are running back Blake Martin, defensive back Ahmad Wallace, quarterback Paul Harris and defensive back Jabari Prewitt.

“Walk-ons are a very important part of every program and I always like to try and help as many walk-ons as we can,” Holtz said. “These guys have worked very hard for this team. They have earned it. I wish we could do more. We have five or 10 other guys on this team that have also worked incredibly hard that deserve a scholarship as well. I wish I could give one to everybody.”

The scholarship announcement took the players by surprise. Wallace had tears in his eyes as the team cheered him after the announcement was made.

Louisiana Tech opens the season on Saturday, Aug. 31 as the Bulldogs play at North Carolina State at 11:30 a.m. CT/12:30 p.m. ET.
