NCAA Denies Transfer Waiver Request for Louisiana Tech Receiver Paul Turner
Aug 29, 2013
RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech officials were informed late Thursday that the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) has denied the school’s request for one of its two transfers – wide receiver Paul Turner – to be able to play during the 2013 season.
Turner will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in the 2014 season.
“I am disappointed for Paul that the ruling came out the way it did,” said Louisiana Tech head coach Skip Holtz. “I hate that Paul will lose a year of college eligibility for doing the right things for his family. I am, however, glad he is a member of such a close-knit family like our team here at Louisiana Tech.”
Turner redshirted as a true freshman at LSU in 2011 and then played in nine games at receiver and on special teams in 2012 before transferring to Louisiana Tech in the spring due to family issues.
Louisiana Tech is still awaiting a final ruling on one other transfer waiver, offensive lineman Joseph Brunson (Louisiana-Lafayette).
The NCAA had previously approved medical sixth year requests for wide receiver Richie Casey, offensive lineman Jeremy Graffree and wide receiver Andrew Guillot. The medical fifth year approvals for offensive lineman Larry Banks and wide receiver Scott Cathcart were approved by the Western Athletic Conference office earlier this week.
The Bulldogs open the season on Saturday at North Carolina State. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. Eastern (11:30 a.m. Central) at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, N.C. The game will be broadcast on the ACC Network and will be simulcast on ESPN3 and as part of the ESPN Game Plan subscription package.
