LA Tech Travels to The Plains of Auburn to Open 2009 Season

Louisiana Tech will open the 2009 season Saturday night as the Bulldogs will play at Auburn with a kick off time set for 6 p.m. CT. The game, played at Auburn's Jordan-Hare Stadium, will be broadcast on ESPNU with Eric Collins, Brock Huard and Beth Mowins calling the action.

Derek Dooley enters his third season as head coach of LA Tech and the Bulldogs are hoping to carry the momentum from the 2008 season into 2009. Tech won five of its last six games in 2008, capping the season off with a 17-10 Independence Bowl victory over Northern Illinois, LA Tech's first bowl victory since 1977.

Louisiana Tech will meet a storied Auburn program that is starting a new chapter as the Tigers enter the inaugural season under the helm of Gene Chizik.

Saturday's game will be the 12th meeting in the all-time series between the two schools with Auburn holding a 10-0-1 advantage.

► Louisiana Tech is entering its third season under the direction of head coach Derek Dooley. The Bulldogs have improved dramatically under Dooley, going from a 3-8 record prior to his arrival to an 8-5 season and an Independence Bowl win last year.
► Louisiana Tech enters the 2009 season as the ONLY Western Athletic Conference (WAC) team to bring a winning streak into the new year. Tech closed the 2008 season with two wins, including an Independence Bowl victory over Northern Illinois. Utah State is the only other WAC team to finish 2008 with a victory.

► LA Tech is 2-0 in season opening games under the direction of head coach Derek Dooley and hold a 49-47-5 record all-time in season openers. The last time LA Tech lost a season opener was in 2006 when the Bulldogs dropped a 49-10 decision at Nebraska.
► Dooley is looking to become the first coach to win his first three season openers since Maxie Lambright did so in his first three years as head coach of LA Tech.
► Louisiana Tech is looking for its program's first win over Auburn. LA Tech has tied Auburn once (13-13 in 1948) and Tech forced Auburn into overtime in 2001 before the Tigers prevailed, 48-41.
► LA Tech has lost 13 consecutive games at BCS Stadiums entering tonight's game.
