RUSTON - Louisiana Tech opens the home portion of its schedule Saturday when the Bulldogs host Lamar at 6 p.m. at Joe Aillet Stadium on Sportsman's Paradise Day. The game day sponsor is Volvo Rents Construction Equipment.
The game-day atmosphere in Ruston on Saturday will include tailgating, promotions and plenty of other activities as the forecast calls for clear skies and temperatures in the low 90s ... perfect weather for college football.
As part of the Sportsman's Paradise Day promotion for the game, a Duck Calling contest emceed by local radio personality Nick Brown will start at 3 p.m. on the front steps of the Thomas Assembly Center.
A total of eight contestants will be selected through the Louisiana Tech Facebook page (Facebook.com/LATechAthletics) as the competition will include elimination rounds going from 8 to 4 to 2 to 1 grand prize winner. The grand prize is a mini green egg (perfect fit for a duck blind) courtesy of Lincoln Outdoor Living. Second place will win a Yeti cooler courtesy of The Southern Sporter.
Fans can also enter to win a free weekend of usage of a tractor and bush hog with delivery courtesy of Volvo Rents. Fans can register inside the stadium by the official Game Day Program booth on the west side of the stadium or at any of the local Volvo Rents stores. The winner will be announced at the Tulane game (Thursday, Sept. 12).
At approximately 3:45 p.m. the Bulldog football team is scheduled to arrive from Monroe and will participate in the Walk of Pride through Tailgate Alley as Tech fans are entertained by the Tech Band of Pride.
Immediately following the Walk of Pride, Dash Rip Rock will perform on front steps of the Thomas Assembly Center. Dash Rip Rock, which was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2012, is a New Orleans trio of musicians known for their high-octane roots rock.
Gates to Joe Aillet Stadium will open at 4 p.m. as free camouflaged LA Tech branded coozies will be given away to fans while supplies last.
Tech fans planning to tailgate prior to the game can plan their menu around barbecue chicken and their favorite sides. During each of the Bulldogs five home games in Ruston during the season judges made up of Louisiana Tech student-athletes will walk through the tailgating areas and judge the best prepared food, the best decorations and the largest group. Members of the Bulldog basketball team will be judging these categories for the Lamar game.
The Ruston Brick Kids Zone is also a big part of the pregame festivities at Joe Aillet Stadium. Located on the southeast hill outside of the Thomas Assembly Center, the Ruston Brick Kids Zone will open three hours prior to kickoff each week and will contain inflatables, games and much more.
Fans are also reminded that although open tailgating will still exist around the Thomas Assembly Center, vehicles will not be allowed to enter those areas starting three hours before kickoff. Vehicles will also be strictly prohibited from entering the area around the Thomas Assembly Center stairs as well as the Ruston Brick Kids Zone area which is located on the southeast hill of the TAC. These areas will be marked with signs and ropes and will be monitored by security personnel.
As tailgating at Joe Aillet Stadium has become a way of life for Bulldog fans with the addition of the Argent Pavilion, Tailgate Alley, the Kids Zone, the Walk of Pride and many more game-day traditions, traffic around these areas has also increased. Tech officials are simply striving to protect their fans and visitors to Ruston on gameday.
Joe Aillet Stadium gates will open two hours prior to kickoff this year. Due to increased Homeland Security mandates for athletic stadiums across the country, fans should know that all bags are subject to search on entrance into Joe Aillet Stadium.
