Tech Coaches Name Players of the Week

RUSTON - A career day by wide receiver Shawn Piper helped the senior headline Louisiana Tech's weekly players of the game named Monday by the Bulldog coaching staff.

Piper earned the offensive player of the week, while linebacker Jeremy Hamilton received the defensive player of the week and safety Dez Abrams and defensive lineman Lacorey Street shared the special teams player of the week award.

Piper recorded a career-high 10 receptions for 173 yards and his first career touchdown, a 76-yard bomb in the first quarter as the Deridder, La., native helped Louisiana Tech down Michigan State 20-19.

Hamilton earned his honor after recording nine tackles, including two tackles for loss and his first career sack for a seven yard loss, a blow that helped knock Spartan starting quarterback Jeff Smoker out of the game.

Abrams, a West Monroe native, earned his special teams accolade after recovering the onside kick with just over a minute remaining that allowed the Bulldogs to retain possession of the football and eventually drive for the game-winning touchdown. Street shared in the special teams honor after partially blocking a field goal during the contest.
