LA Tech Football Travels to Take on Texas Tech Saturday

Sept. 16, 2016

LUBBOCK, Texas - Louisiana Tech is set for its second road matchup in the last three weeks when the Bulldogs travel to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders at 6 p.m. CT Saturday at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock.

The game will be televised by Fox Sports Network with Brendan Burke (play-by-play), Brian Baldinger (analysis) and Christian Steckel (sideline) calling all the action from Lubbock.

“It is going to be a great challenge for our football team playing our second game on the road and going out there and playing there,” head coach Skip Holtz said. “Hopefully, some of our younger players were able to cut their teeth at Arkansas on the road and that will help us a little bit where maybe we are not so big-eyed going into this stadium and playing this game. We are going to have to be playing at a high level if we want a chance to be competitive in this game.”

Saturday’s game will mark just the second meeting all-time between Louisiana Tech and Texas Tech, with the first meeting dating back to 1933.

PREGAME NOTES

  •             On Oct. 20, 1933, the Louisiana Polytechnic Institute Bulldogs traveled to Lubbock, Texas, to take on Texas Technological College in what marked the only meeting for the two programs in the last 83 years. In that game, the Red Raiders came away with a 40-10 victory in Lubbock, but the visiting Bulldogs did get on the board thanks to a 63-yard rushing touchdown by LA Tech Legend Hoss Garrett. On Saturday, those two teams, now known as Louisiana Tech and Texas Tech, will face off once again on the gridiron once again when the Bulldogs travel to Lubbock for the second time in program history to take on the Red Raiders.
  •             Just two games into his senior season, Trent Taylor has already cemented his spot as a LA Tech Legend throughout his Bulldog career. Entering Week 3 of the season, Taylor is ranked in the Top 10 in school history in six different categories, including ranking in the top five in career touchdowns (4th - 23) and 100-yard receiving performances (5th - 10). The senior needs just 82 yards to move into the top five in program history in career yards, while 24 more receptions would tie him for fifth place all-time in career receptions at Louisiana Tech.
  •             Not only is Trent Taylor chasing down history in the LA Tech record books, but the senior is also one of the top receivers in the nation among active players. With 210 career receptions, Taylor ranks fourth among active career leaders in the NCAA. The senior also ranks sixth in the NCAA among active career leaders with 2,632 receiving yards in four years with the Bulldogs.
  •             Current LA Tech cornerbacks coach Kevin Curtis returns home to Lubbock where he played football for the Red Raiders from 1998-2001 and earned his degree in 2002. Curtis joined Skip Holtz’s staff this season after spending the past three years coaching the defensive backs at Texas Tech.
