LA Tech is coming off a 24-15 loss to Tulane last Thursday where the defense was effective in forcing four turnovers but struggled offensively, scoring only three points off those turnovers.

Tech was forced to change gears with its signal caller last week after halftime after starting quarterback Scotty Young left the game with an injury. He did not return and Ryan Higgins took over. The team's depth chart leading into the Kansas game lists both players as potential starters with Young's status listed as "probable."

Running back Kenneth Dixon is also listed as "probable" as he continues to recover from a knee injury suffered against Lamar on Sept. 7. Dixon was limited against Tulane, only carrying the ball a few times.

"Offense is 11 guys in unison all doing the same thing," Louisiana Tech head coach Skip Holtz said Monday. "Five guys are up front working together and then with the quarterback and receivers, we are just not on the same page. I do not think it is effort. I do not think it is desire. I do not think it is want-to. I think everybody on the offensive side of the ball is embarrassed by what we did, but I also think they can watch film and see where we can get an awful lot better."

Through three games this season, Tech's defense has impressed with a unit that is ranked second in the nation in tackles for a loss and third in the nation in sacks. That is a group led by IK Enemkpali, who leads the nation in sacks per game, and Daniel Cobb, who is ranked second in the nation in tackles for a loss per game.

"This is a big play defense," Kansas coach Charlie Weis said of the Bulldog defense. "They're leaders in the country for both sacks and tackles for loss. I think they have like 12 sacks and they're way up there in tackles for loss, both categories. They live off of big plays and one of the guys that you know you have to be concerned with right off the bat is Enemkpali at their defensive end. Him [Enemkpali] and Dora handle their defensive end but, Enemkpali has four and a half sacks and another five tackles for a loss and he had an interception as well. He's a pretty dynamic pass rusher. The guys inside are really big. Ellis, he's 357. Lucas is small at 300 and the guys behind them are both 300 pound guys that play in there too. They'll rotate all four of those guys inside. Cobb transferred in, he's leading the linebacker core, he's got 23 tackles and eight tackles for a loss and he's a heck of a blitzer and they bring him a whole bunch."

Weiss and the Jayhawks enter the week facing another Conference USA team that could trip them up. Last week Kansas fell at Rice, 23-14, in a game that saw the Owls get a pick-six against the KU offense.
