BATON ROUGE, La. - Two days removed from throwing a career-best 357 yards in a 21-for-30 performance, Louisiana Tech quarterback Ross Jenkins was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Offensive Player of the Week. Jenkins is the first LA Tech player the LSWA has honored this year.
A panel of 13 voters selects the LSWA awards each week. The weekly vote by the LSWA panel is made based on nominations from the sports information personnel of the state football-playing institutions.
Jenkins, a junior from Houston, was 21-of-30 passing with a career best 357 yards and two touchdowns in Tech's 48-13 win over Nicholls State. Jenkins became the first Louisiana Tech quarterback to throw for over 300 yards in a game in two years ... Jenkins led the Louisiana Teach offense in scoring a touchdown in five consecutive possessions in the first half.
Also honored this week was Grambling State defensive end Christian Anthony and LSU place kicker Josh Jasper.
Louisiana Tech next returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 30 when LA Tech hosts its annual RED OUT game against Hawai'i. All Bulldog fans are encouraged to wear red for the 7 p.m. CT game that will be televised on ESPN2.
