RUSTON - Former Louisiana Tech record-setting quarterback and current Atlanta Falcons signal caller Luke McCown will be in attendance Saturday at the Bulldogs home game against Idaho set for a 6 p.m. kickoff at Joe Aillet Stadium.
As part of the promotions surrounding Saturday's game, a selected number of Luke McCown No. 11 Bulldog jerseys will be given away to lucky fans in attendance. McCown will be recognized as this week's LA Tech Legend between the first and second quarters.
During his LA Tech career McCown became one of the most prolific passers in the history of college football as the four-year starter led the Bulldogs under center from 2000 through 2003. He took over the reins of the Bulldog offense in the fifth game of his true freshman year and never looked back while passing for more than 12,000 yards and 87 touchdowns.
He ranks No. 2 in program history in passing yards, total offense and passing touchdowns. He still ranks in the Top 15 all-time in NCAA history in passing yards and total offense while ranking in the top 30 in career passing touchdowns. He led Tech to many memorable wins, including come-from-behind victories over Big 12 foe Oklahoma State and Big Ten foe Michigan State.
As a sophomore, he guided the Bulldogs to the 2001 WAC Championship and a berth in the Humanitarian Bowl - the program's first since 1990. He was named all-American, All-WAC and All-Independent during his college career.
He was selected in the fourth round of the 2004 draft by the Cleveland Browns. He is currently in his ninth season of the NFL where he has played for the Browns, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Atlanta Falcons.
