Bulldogs Hope to Rebound vs. North Texas

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech (2-3, 2-1 WAC) will try to rebound from a disappointing loss at Nevada last Saturday when they host North Texas (2-3, 2-1 Sun Belt) Saturday at 3 p.m. at Joe Aillet Stadium.

Although Tech has struggled offensively at times this season, the Bulldogs haven’t had as severe a problem scoring as the Mean Green, who enter the game ranked 116th in the country in scoring (9.2 ppg) and 117th in total offense (203.8 ypg).

In its five games, North Texas has scored 14 points vs. Middle Tennessee, 13 points vs. Florida International, 10 points vs. Troy, 7 points vs. Kansas State and 2 points vs. Tulsa. The Mean Green have struggled despite the fact they return the past two NCAA Division I rushing champions in tailbacks Patrick Cobbs and Jamario Thomas.

Cobbs, the 2003 rushing leader, has rushed for 405 yards and one score this year while Thomas has totaled 180 yards and zero touchdowns. North Texas has only scored four offensive touchdowns in five games.

Quarterback has been the biggest issue for the Mean Green as Daniel Meager has completed only 46 of 95 attempts for 442 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions.

North Texas will try to solve their offensive woes against a Louisiana Tech defense that has played well for the majority of the time this year. Tech ranks No. 2 in the WAC in scoring defense and No. 3 in the league in total defense and rushing defense.

Tech trails in the series 5-4 although the Bulldogs have won four of the last five. North Texas won the last meeting 10-5 in 1987.
