Dixon, Nelson Earn Weekly Honors

BATON ROUGE, La. and DENVER - Louisiana Tech freshman running back Kenneth Dixon was named the Offensive Player of the Week by the Western Athletic Conference and the Louisiana Sports Writers Association while senior kicker Matt Nelson was named the Special Teams Co-Player of the Week by the LSWA.
Dixon, a freshman from Strong, Ark., rushed for a school record six touchdowns in Louisiana Tech’s 70-28 win over Idaho. Dixon had 17 carries for 232 yards and helped the Bulldogs break a school record with 839 yards of total offense, the most by any team in the nation this year. He scored five of his six touchdowns in the first half as Louisiana Tech tied a WAC record with 56 points in a half.
Nelson, a senior from Cibolo, Texas, set a career high 10 PATs made in Louisiana Tech’s 70-28 rout of Idaho Saturday. Nelson also set new school records for PATs made (49) and attempted (50) in a season with the Bulldogs still having five games (plus a bowl game) left to play this year.
