When Louisiana Tech plays at Rice Stadium on Saturday, it will be playing on a field that holds a fair amount of Bulldog football history.
Before he made international fame making duck calls and starring one of cable's highest-rated TV shows (Duck Dynasty), Phil Robertson was a quarterback at Louisiana Tech. His collegiate debut came on Sept. 18, 1965 at Rice Stadium against the Owls.
In that game, Robertson completed three of his five passes for 37 yards and netted three yards on two rush attempts in the 14-0 loss. Following his junior year, he gave up football and his starting quarterback job allowing Terry Bradshaw to take over the reins of the program.
His story of finding stardom after quitting football was profiled in March 2012 in Sports Illustrated and he made his first return to his alma mater this fall.
