LA Tech Football Places Three on C-USA All-Freshman Team
Dec. 6, 2016
IRVING, Texas - Three freshman Bulldogs have earned spots on the 2016 Conference USA All-Freshman football team as selected by the league’s 13 head coaches, it was announced by the league office Tuesday. Louisiana Tech is represented by offensive lineman Ethan Reed, defensive lineman Eric Kendzior and defensive back Ephraim Kitchen.
All three freshmen were instrumental in helping lead LA Tech to a record of 8-5 (6-2 C-USA), a West Division title and bowl eligibility for the third straight year, a first in school history.
Reed earned a starting role on the offensive line in fall camp and started every game this season for the Bulldogs. As a rookie, Reed helped leads a unit that ranks third nationally in tackles for loss allowed per game (3.69). He helped pave the way for a group that ranks fifth nationally in scoring (44.0) and eighth nationally in total offense (516.1).
Kendzior saw action in nine games as a true freshman for the Bulldogs this season, recording nine total tackles on the season, including 3.5 tackles for a loss of 12 yards. The freshman also registered two sacks for a loss of 10 yards and one quarterback hurry in his rookie season. Kendzior helps leads a defense that ranks 11th nationally and first in C-USA in total sacks on the season.
As for Kitchen, he saw action in seven games as a redshirt freshman despite battling through injuries throughout the season. Kitchen totaled 31 tackles on the season (24 solo), including 4.5 tackles for a loss of 13 yards. He also registered four pass break-ups for the Bulldogs.
Marshall, Old Dominion and UTEP produced a league-high four players on the team, while Florida Atlantic and C-USA West Division champ Louisiana Tech each had three players selected to the league’s freshman team. A total of 12 C-USA teams were represented on the all-freshman squad.
The league’s individual awards will be released Wednesday, Dec. 7. Conference USA will conclude the 2016 season by sending a record seven teams to bowl games.
