FRISCO, Texas -- Within the constant swarm of events, practices and media requests in preparation for the DXL Frisco Bowl, a few members of the Louisiana Tech football team took time out of their busy schedules to spread some love and holiday cheer to children at Children's Medical Center Plano.

"It's a special day for sure, Tech deep snapper Cameron Linck commented. "It's great to see these smiling faces. It's special to see their reactions when we walk into the room. We've been running around from one thing to the next all week, so it's cool to sit back and see how some of the guys came in and brought smiles to everybody today."

The children's' hospital patients and staff welcomed Reeves Blankenship, Eric Kendzior, Linck, Boston Scott, Israel Tucker, Courtney Wallace and Theron Williams along with assistant AD for character education and student development, Ed Jackson.

The student-athletes passed out some Tech gear along with stuffed animals, cookies, coloring sheets and balloons to some of the children in celebration of the upcoming holiday season.

Members of the Tech cheer squad along with Tech's mascot, Champ joined the group in spreading some cheer to patients and family members throughout the hospital.

Tech defensive tackle Wallace said he enjoyed spending time with the upbeat children and their families. The sophomore from Monroe knows a thing or two about youth outreach and giving back to the community.

"Back in Ruston, I have a youth mentoring program," Wallace noted. "We take some kids that may be underprivileged, or in trouble and we hang out with them -- kind of like a Big Brother-Big Sister program. We teach them the morals of life. Some of them come from single-parent homes, and we play the role of what they need in their lives at the moment."

"It was nice to see all the smiles on the kid's faces." They were so happy to see us all here and it was uplifting for me as well, Wallace concluded.

Tech takes on SMU tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. from Toyota Stadium in Frisco.
