Smith, Lavergne to Participate in Rotary Gridiron Classic

RUSTON - Senior running back Joe Smith and senior offensive lineman Damian Lavergne will both compete in the Rotary Gridiron Classic College All-Star Game on Jan. 25 in Orlando, Fla.

The Louisiana Tech duo both earned first team All-Western Athletic Conference honors this year as well as first team All-Louisiana Sports Writers Association accolades following their senior campaigns.

Smith rushed for 1,216 yards and 16 touchdowns for the Bulldogs this season, while also registering 47 receptions for 352 yards. The Cleveland, Texas, native became the first Tech player since 1994 to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season.

Lavergne anchored a Tech offensive line that allowed Smith to be so productive on the ground while also protecting Bulldog quarterbacks who passed for more than 3,500 yards.
