LA Tech Golf Wraps up Play at Arizona Intercollegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Louisiana Tech Golf team closed out its first competition of the spring season Tuesday afternoon after finishing tied for 16th in the Arizona Intercollegiate, which was hosted by the Arizona Wildcats at Sewailo Golf Course in Tucson, Arizona.

As a team, the Bulldogs wrapped up play on Tuesday with a total team score of 933 (325-320-308) over the course of the two-day event. Individually, freshman Max Kettler led the Bulldogs after shooting a three-round total of 227 (83-69-75) to finish tied for 41st in the competitive field of golfers.

After posting a team score of 325 in the first round, the Bulldogs improved their team total by 25 shots in the second round of play, which was stretched over two days after play was halted Monday evening as a result of darkness. In the second round, LA Tech posted a team score of 300, while Kettler led the Bulldogs by shooting two under par for a score of 69, which tied him for 27th individually entering the third and final round.

In the third round of play, Kettler shot four over (75) to help LA Tech to a 308 team score in the final round. In addition to Kettler's performance, LA Tech's Hayden Frederick (78-77-79=234) posted three straight rounds in the 70s to close out the first tournament of 2018.

Kettler (83-69-75=227), Frederick (78-77-79=234), Ryan Alford (79-76-80=235), Karsten Green (85-78-76=239) and Peyton Coursey (90-80-79=249) made up LA Tech's five-man team at this week's Arizona Intercollegiate.

LA Tech returns to the course Feb. 12-13 as the Bulldogs compete in the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate on the Crossings Course at Magnolia Grove golf club in Mobile, Alabama.
