Bale Leads Under-manned Bulldogs at UTSA
Feb. 14, 2012
SAN ANTONIO - Heading into Monday's opening day of the 2012 UTSA Oak Hill Invitational, Louisiana Tech coach Jeff Parks had high expectations for his Bulldog golf team.
Those expectations - and his team - were put to the test early when senior Cody Santone was forced to withdrawal due to an injury sustained during Sunday's practice round which was aggravated in the early going on Monday's opening 18 holes.
The foursome responded admirably as the Bulldogs are currently sixth out of 15 teams in the highly-competitive field playing at Oak Hills Country Club.
Bale led Tech on Monday, shooting back-to-back even-par 71s as the senior is currently tied for 5th place (142) heading into Tuesday's final round. Wilmore (74-73-147) and Blankenship (76-71=147) both finished the day at five-over-par 147 and are currently tied for 25th. Forgan is tied for 57th with a total of 152 (73-79).
"I'm proud of the way these guys responded," Parks said. "Losing Cody really hurt, but the guys accepted the challenge and responded. It's tough playing in a tournament of this magnitude with such great competition, but we will grow from this. I'm looking forward to seeing how they respond tomorrow."
Parks said Santone could possibly play in Tuesday's final round depending on how he felt.
Oklahoma leads the team competition with a two-round total of 572 followed by Baylor (576), Texas Tech (577), Louisiana-Lafayette (580), Wichita State (586), LA Tech (588), Texas State (589), Houston (589), North Texas (590), Iowa State (591), Southeastern Louisiana (593), UTSA (598), Tulsa (602), and Rice (617).
