Victor Lange and Jack Lempke both shot 1-under-par 71 and Louisiana Tech trails Mississippi State by one stroke as play opened up at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship in Houston Friday.
Co-host Houston shot an 8-under-par 280 to hold a five-stroke lead after the first round of play while Texas follows, shooting 285 (3-under-par). Arkansas is in third with a 1-under-par 287 while South Carolina, co-host Rice and Baylor are all at even-par 288. Mississippi State is at 289, one shot ahead of LA Tech.
Both Lange and Lempke are tied for 16th overall after shooting 71 (1-under-par) over the course of the first round. Travis Wilmore is tied for 35th with a 1-over-par 73 while Chuck Spears is at 3-over-par 75.
Houston’s Wesley McClain and South Carolina’s Caleb Sturgeon lead the individual competition after a 4-under-par round of 68.
Action resumes with the second round of the Bayou City Collegiate Championship at 8:30 a.m. CT Saturday. The final round begins at 9 a.m. CT Sunday.
