LAFAYETTE, La. - Louisiana Tech shot a season best round of 9-under-par Monday as the Bulldogs sit in fourth place entering Tuesday’s final round of the 29th Annual Louisiana Classics at Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette.
The Bulldogs finished the day one stroke ahead of Tulsa and only six strokes behind host UL-Lafayette. No. 9 Illinois leads the tournament at 27-under-par (279-270=549) while No. 33 LSU is in second place at 14-under-par (280-282=562).
The nine strokes below par is the best team round the Bulldogs have shot this season and marks the best round LA Tech has shot since a 279 round (9-under-par) at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate hosted by Southern Miss on Sept. 13, 2010.
All four of the scorers in LA Tech’s second round shot under par. Senior Jack Lempke leads LA Tech overall at 2-under-par (71-71=142) as he stands tied for 10th overall.
Sophomore Victor Lange and senior Travis Wilmore both tied for the best round of the day from a Tech golfer as they both recorded 3-under-par scores in the second round of the two-round, 36-hole day. Lange birdied two of his last three holds while Wilmore eagled a tough par-five on Hole No. 3 and then added a birdie three holes later. Wilmore was the only player to birdie on No. 3 during the day.
Sophomore Ben Robinson was also impressive in the second round with a 2-under-par (70) score, notching an eagle on the par-five Hole No. 13.
