BATON ROUGE, La. - Louisiana Tech shot an opening day, two-round total of 27-over-par 603 but the Bulldogs are only six strokes back heading into Sunday's final round of the 2012 David Toms Intercollegiate hosted by LSU at the University Club.
Between tough conditions and a tough course, the nine teams - eight of them ranked in the top 100 in the country - competing at the event all felt the effects through both the morning and afternoon rounds.
LSU and South Alabama lead the event at 597 followed by LA Tech (603), Mississippi State (605), Tulsa (607), Ole Miss (609), UAB (610), UL-Lafayette (637) and Lamar (649).
Travis Wilmore - coming off his win at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate - shot a two-round total of 148 and is tied for 7th place while Jack Lempke shot a 149 (78-71) and sits in 10th place. Victor Lange (75-75=150, T12th), Sam Forgan (76-80=156, 28th) and Ben Robinson (82-83=165, T45th) rounded out the scoring for Tech.
South Alabama's Lane Hulse and Mississippi State's Chad Ramey both totaled 145 to lead the individual competition.
