BATON ROUGE, La. – Sophomore Joacim Ahlund shot a second round 69 to lead the Bulldogs in the rain-shortened David Toms Intercollegiate at the University Club Saturday.

The third and final round was canceled due to inclement weather from Hurricane Nate approaching the south Louisiana area.

Ahlund shot a 36-hole total of one-over-par 145 to finish in a tie for 11th place out of 72 competitors and lead Louisiana Tech. LSU’s Jacob Bergeron and Luis Gagne tied for the individual title with a total of four-under-par 140 while the Tigers ran away with the team title with an 11-under-par 565.

After starting with a double bogey on the second hole of the day (the par 4, 422-yard No. 12), Ahlund recorded three birdies and one eagle – on the par 4, 402-yard No. 1 – to register his 69, which tied for the lowest individual round on the day.

“We had a much better day today,” said Tech head coach Matt Terry. “The whole team looked better. We received a really good round from Joacim and Felix (Paalson) and Hayden (Frederick) were close. We have to start playing from ahead and not digging ourselves such a big hole. I'm looking forward to getting back to practice and continuing to watch these guys get better.”

Paalson (77-73=150, T22nd) and Frederick (80-76=156, T47th) were also solid for the Bulldogs on Saturday. Paalson shot a one-over-par 73 while Frederick shot a four-over-par 76. Paalson’s round also included an eagle on the par 5, 554-yard hole No. 6.

Tech improved its team total by 14 strokes over Friday’s first round of 312. The Bulldogs came back Saturday to shoot a 298 and finished 10th in the 13-team event.

Karsten Green (79-80=159, T57th) and Ryan Alford (80-81=161, T62nd) also competed for the Bulldogs while freshman Nick Daniel (74-82=156, T47th) competed as an individual.

LSU was followed in the team competition by North Texas (582), McNeese State (592), Lynn (593), Central Arkansas (597), Southern Illinois (598), Oral Roberts (605), Southeastern Louisiana (608), Penn (608), LA Tech (610), Navy (626), Nicholls State (636) and New Orleans (637).
