RUSTON - Louisiana Tech juniors Travis Wilmore and Jack Lempke both recorded top 10 finishes to lead the Bulldogs at the highly-challenging 2012 David Toms Intercollegiate hosted by LSU at the University Club Saturday and Sunday.
Wilmore recorded his third straight top 10 finish of the fall season, tying for sixth with a nine-over-par total of 225 while Lempke tied for ninth with a total of 10-over-par 226 as none of the 55 competitors finished the three-day event under par.
Wilmore's performance came on the heels of his first collegiate win last week at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate while Lempke's finish came after a Top 10 finish at that same event.
LSU's Andrew Presley won the individual title at the event with a four-over-par total of 220, one stroke better than teammate Smylie Kaufman and South Alabama's Michael Garretson who both shot 221.
As a team the Bulldogs finished fifth in the highly-competitive nine-team field that included eight teams ranked in the top 100 of the country. To illustrate how difficult the course played over the three rounds, 16th ranked LSU won the team title despite shooting 33-over-par (897) during the event. South Alabama (905) finished second followed by Tulsa (911), Mississippi State (918), LA Tech (920), Ole Miss (928), UAB (937), UL-Lafayette (956) and Lamar (964). Lamar came into the event ranked 50th in the country and shot 100-over as a team during the three rounds.
