DENVER - Louisiana Tech's Sam Forgan was named the Western Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week for Feb. 18-24.
Forgan, a senior from Stowmarket, England (Stowmarket HS), finished tied for 11th and 27th at two highly-competitive events that the Bulldogs competed in during the week. Forgan tied for 11th with a 54-hole total of one-under-par 215 at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship at Redstone Golf Course in Houston (Feb. 22-24). The field consisted of 15 teams, including third-ranked Texas and five other teams ranked in the Top 50 in the country (and a total of 11 Top 100 ranked programs).
The 85-man field also consisted of seven Top 100 ranked players with Forgan defeating four of them and tying a fifth (of the 10 players that defeated Forgan, four were from the third-ranked Texas Longhorns). Forgan shot 73, 70, and 72 during his three rounds and his scorecard included 12 birdies, 6 bogeys, 2 double bogeys and 34 pars. Forgan helped the Bulldogs defeat 11 teams, including three WAC teams (UTSA, UTA and NMSU) and three Top 50 teams (Baylor, UT Chattanooga and Indiana).
Earlier in the week, Forgan finished tied for 27th at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate at Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course which included four Top 25 teams as well as Auburn, Kentucky and Mississippi State. Forgan shot 72, 74 and 76 for a three-round total of six-over-par 222 (only three competitors out of 80) finished the event in red numbers.
