McNeill Leads Tech Golfers at Houston
HOUSTON – Junior Trey McNeill finished tied for 29th to lead Louisiana Tech at the All-American Golf Classic hosted by Houston at the Cypress Wood Golf Club Monday and Tuesday.
McNeill shot 81-69-74 to finish at 224, helping the Bulldogs to an 11th place finish in the 13-team field.
“Not to make any excuses but between finals and the rain, we didn’t get a chance to practice much this last week,” said Tech head coach Jean Hall. “It took us a round to get our bearings back. We played much better on the second 18 yesterday. Trey shot a 69 which was really good for that course.
“Today, we didn’t get off to a good start. A couple of our players had good rounds going and didn’t finish well. It’s the same pattern we have had all year.”
Amrith de Soysa finished 45th (78-76-75=229), Taylor Gregg finished tied for 50th (79-77-75=231), Logan Riester finished tied for 52nd (79-74-79=232) and Corey Bartlett finished tied for 59th (78-76-82=236) for the Bulldogs.
As a team, Tech shot 314-295-303 to finish 48-over-par and in eleventh place at 912 while Houston won the tournament with a team total of 11-under-par 853.
