Bulldog Golfers Head to Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETE, La. --- Fresh off its fourth-place finish at the Bayou City Collegiate Championships last weekend, the Louisiana Tech Bulldog golf team will head south to compete in the 28th annual Louisiana Classics Monday and Tuesday.

Head coach Jeff Parks Bulldogs will compete in the 14-team field that includes six Top 50 ranked teams and a total of 10 Top 100 ranked programs during the 54-hole event that will be held at Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette (6,898-yard, par 72).

The event will start Monday morning at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start as the first 36 holes will be played on the opening day. Tuesday's final round will also begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The trophy presentation is slated for 1:30 p.m.

Tech will be included in this week's competitive field that includes 14th-ranked LSU, 20th-ranked Illinois, 23rd-ranked Kent State, 34th-ranked Houston, 38th-ranked Tulsa, 47th-ranked South Alabama, 62nd-ranked Memphis, 97th-ranked UTSA, 100th-ranked Southern Miss, 112th-ranked Southeastern Louisiana, 121st-ranked Kansas, 126th-ranked Texas State and 141st-ranked Louisiana Lafayette.

The 75th-ranked Bulldogs moved up 10 spots in this week's Golfstat.com rankings after beating three Top 50 ranked teams last weekend at the Bayou City Championships in Houston. LA Tech will take all six members of its roster to the event as senior Sam Forgan, juniors Travis Wilmore and Jack Lempke and freshmen Victor Lange and Ben Robinson will compete in the team competition. Freshman Brandon Newton will compete as an individual.

 

 

Lange and Forgan both earned Top 15 finishes last week in Houston as Lange tied for 8th while Forgan tied for 11th out of 85 competitors, including seven that were ranked in the Top 100 in the country. Wilmore leads the Bulldogs in scoring average at 73.7 followed by Forgan (74.3), Lange (74.4), Lempke (75.8), Robinson (77.2) and Newton (79.0).

A new addition to this year's event is a free live video feed on both days featuring holes No. 9 and No. 18. Dan McDonald and Gerald Broussard will provide commentary for the video stream.
