Tech Golfers Finish 13th in Chenal Trojan Cup

RUSTON - The Louisiana Tech golf team shot a final round total of 297 to finish in a two-way tie for 13th place in the Chenal Trojan Cup at Chenal Country Club in Little Rock, Ark.

Head coach Tom Stinson's squad shot a three-round total of 910 to tie with Texas-Arlington while host UALR won the event with an 861. South Alabama (871), Jacksonville State (873), Denver (878) and Lamar (883) rounded out the top five.

Tech shot an opening round 323 Monday but came back with strong second and third round totals of 293 and 297.

"We played very respectable in the final two rounds," Stinson said. "We finally stepped up. Chenal is a very difficult and good course, and we may have had a case of nerves in the first round. However, after the kids saw it, they came back and played really well."

Four of the five Bulldog competitors shot in the 70s on the final day, while junior Halli Heimisson led Tech with a tournament total of 224 to finish in a tie for 33rd. Other Tech competitors were Chase Hemperley (43rd, 227), Derek Busby (55th, 229), Logan Reister (61st, 231) and Chad Carter (82nd, 239).
