MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Louisiana Tech will compete in its final event prior to the Western Athletic Conference championships as the Bulldogs are one of 12-teams teeing it up at the 2012 Memphis Intercollegiate at Colonial Country Club Monday and Tuesday.
Head coach Jeff Parks Bulldogs are currently ranked 67th in the country heading into this week's event, the highest ranking this late in the season ever for a LA Tech golf team. Tech is also the highest ranked Western Athletic Conference team, edging San Jose State which is ranked 76th.
This week the Bulldogs will be competing against a field that includes 154th-ranked Arkansas State, 98th-ranked UALR, 116th-ranked Akron, 41st ranked Kennesaw State, 43rd ranked Memphis, 42nd ranked Middle Tennessee, 69th ranked Mississippi State, 117th-ranked Southern Miss, 94th ranked South Alabama, 34th-ranked UAB and 80th ranked Vanderbilt.
Tech has recorded a total of five Top 5 finishes in nine events thus far this season, including three straight following its fifth-place finish at the LSU National Invitation last week. The Bulldogs are on the cusp of qualifying for the program's first ever NCAA regional appearance with only two events remaining.
This week the Bulldogs will be represented by Jonathan Bale, Cody Blankenship, Sam Forgan, Cody Santone and Travis Wilmore. The five-some have combined for a total of eight top 10 individual performances this season led by Forgan's three.
The event will begin Monday at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start and will include 36 holes on the opening day. It will conclude Tuesday with the third and final round.
