RUSTON, La. - The title is for the taking, all that remains is a strong, consistent performance over three days for the Louisiana Tech men's golf team.

The Bulldogs will vie for a conference title starting on April 29 at the Rio Secco Golf Club in the 51st annual Club Glove WAC Championship at the 7,313-yard, par-72 course in Henderson, Nev.

LA Tech is ranked 96th entering post-season play, just three spots behind league leader UT Arlington. San Jose State is on the Bulldogs heels, ranked 99th. The top seven teams in the WAC are ranked within 20 spots of each other in the most recent GolfStat Rankings released on April 24.

"We are looking forward to the competition at the WAC Championships with a lot of closely ranked teams clumped together at the top," said head coach Jeff Parks. "Winning the WAC Championship was one of the top goals our guys set at the beginning of the year. If we perform and execute like we are capable of doing we should be able to put on a good show and have a strong performance."

If the motivation of a Parks' pregame speech and the chance to win a title weren't enough, Hall of Fame coach Leon Barmore spoke to the team last Wednesday and was named the team's honorary captain for the WAC Championships.

Travis Wilmore leads the Bulldogs with a 73.6 average tournament round this season, followed closely by Victor Lange (74.1). They will be joined by Sam Forgan (74.9), Jack Lempke (76.8) and Ben Robinson (78.4) in Nevada.

The Rio Secco Golf Club has been the league's neutral site host of the championship event since the 2009 WAC Championship. Louisiana Tech is considered the host institution for this year's event.

The 10-team field consists of 93rd-ranked UT Arlington, 96th-ranked Louisiana Tech, 99th-ranked San Jose State and 100th-ranked Denver along with UTSA (ranked 104th), Idaho (108), Texas State (113), New Mexico State (131), Utah State (200) and Seattle (227).

Live scoring of the three-day championship event will be available at GolfStat.com.
