IRVING, Texas - Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky named the 15 recipients of the Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship Awards Tuesday with Bulldog golfer Travis Wilmore receiving the honor on behalf of Louisiana Tech.
This is the sixth year the award has been named for Dr. Castañeda, who served Rice University for 46 years as an educator, coach and Faculty Athletics Representative before he passed away in November 2008. The conference annually presents the $4,000 Postgraduate Scholarship awards to graduates as selected by the C-USA Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors.

Wilmore received his bachelor's degree from Louisiana Tech last month, graduating with a 3.764 GPA in biology. A four-year member of the golf team, Wilmore played in all 11 tournaments for the Bulldogs his senior year, posting a 74.3 stroke average. His best finish came at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate, taking third with a 4-under 212 (70-75-67). For his career, Wilmore averaged 74.5 strokes over 106 rounds. He was a two-time academic all-conference selection, earned President's List honors six quarters and was named to the Dean's List four quarters. Wilmore plans to pursue a Doctorate of Medicine at LSU-Shreveport Medical School.
