Reister Leads Tech Golfers at Raising Cane Classic
RUSTON - Sophomore Logan Reister shot a two-round total of 142 Monday to lead the Louisiana Tech golf team at the 2003 Raising Cane Classic held at Canebrake Golf Course in Hattiesburg, Miss.
Reister's total, which included an opening round of 69 in the morning session, places him in a tie for 21st in the individual standings after 36 holes heading into Tuesday's final round.
Sophomore teammate Derek Busby shot a 146 (73, 73) while sophomore Chase Hemperley added a 149 (76, 73), freshman Preston Smith shot a 150 (76, 74) and senior Sean Knox recorded a 155 (76, 79).
As a team Louisiana Tech shot a 294 and 293 for a two-round total of 587, which puts head coach Tom Stinson's squad in 12th place in the 15-team tournament.
"I thought we played very well considering we had our first practice yesterday," Stinson said, noting the fact his team could not practice prior to the tournament due to Louisiana Tech University starting school Monday. "This is a strong, strong field. I thought Logan had a very good day and in the afternoon round we shot three 73s and a 74. There were definitely some positives for us."
Jacksonville State leads the tournament with a two-round total of 558. The Bulldogs will complete their first tournament of the fall Tuesday at the par 72, 6,950-yard course.
