@LATechGolf Hosts Jim Rivers Intercollegiate Monday, Tuesday
Sept. 16, 2017
CHOUDRANT, La. – Louisiana Tech joins 13 other collegiate golf teams Monday and Tuesday when the Bulldog duffers open the 2017 fall season hosting the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate at Squire Creek Golf Course.
The event will be the first for new LA Tech head coach Matt Terry.
“It’s going to be fun,” said Terry. “I’m not a guy that stays on top of them while they are playing. I want them to work hard in practice rounds, but once the tournament starts I want them to be them. I want them to bring the best of what they can do. Just go out and do their thing. They are going to go out and have some successes and have some failures. I’m just going to let them play. They have already gotten the message from me. It’s going to be fun to go out there and watch them.”
Tech welcomes Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, Lamar, Missouri State, Nicholls State, South Florida, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Miss, Stephen F. Austin, UNO and UTSA for the two-day, 54-hole event.
Both Monday’s opening round and Tuesday’s final round will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on the par 72, 7,070-yard course. Monday will consist of a total of 36 holes.
“It’s great for people to come and see these guys hit it,” said Terry. “They hit it unbelievably well. We have guys and some of these other teams have guys that can really stripe it. It’s fun to come out and watch them in action. It’s a great time to wander around and watch a little bit of golf. Hopefully we will play well and put on a good show. Having the support of our fans is huge for us.”
Felix Palson, Karsten Green, Ryan Alford, Joacim Ahlund and Hayden Frederick will represent the Bulldogs in the team competition while Peyton Coursey, Nick Daniel, Hunter Glenn and Sacha Aubert will compete as individuals.
This marks the 13th year of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate which began in 2004. Tech won the event in 2010 while former Bulldogs Matthew Harvey (2007) and Travis Wilmore (2012) each captured the individual title.
ULM, which is not competing in this year’s event, is the defending team champion while Lamar’s Zander Gous is the defending individual champion.
Live scoring will be available for all 54 holes at www.GolfStat.com.
