RUSTON -- Louisiana Tech's Victor Lange and Texas State's Krista Puisite have been named the Western Athletic Conference Golfers of the Month for September.
Lange, a freshman from Johannesburg, South Africa (Leeuwenhof College), won the Sam Hall Intercollegiate individual title while competing in his first collegiate event. Lange fired three-straight sub-par rounds (205--68-67-70) to finish eight-under par with a one-stroke victory. Lange recorded 14 birdies and one eagle during the tournament.
His win was the first by a Tech golfer since 2008 and his eight-under par total was the lowest by a Bulldog golfer in the last decade. Lange is the first Bulldog golfer to earn the WAC Golfer of the Month/Week since Matt Harvey earned the award for March 23-29, 2009.
Puisite, a senior from Riga, Latvia (Riga State Gymnasium No. 1), played in two tournaments last month and recorded two top-three finishes. Puisite finished in third at the Chris Banister Classic, Sept. 2-4, with a four-over par 220 (73-74-73), to help the Bobcats win the team title by 24 strokes. She then followed that up with her second career individual title at the Mary Fossum Invitational hosted by Michigan State. Puisite's 54-hole one-under par total of 215 (71-71-73), was the fifth lowest in school history.
