RUSTON - Following his first collegiate victory at the 2012 Jim Rivers Intercollegiate Tuesday, Louisiana Tech junior Travis Wilmore saw a boost in more than just his local and regional media exposure.
The Alexandria native climbed in the national rankings as Wilmore is ranked 7th in the country in the most recent polls on www.golfstat.com. Through the first two tournaments of the fall season, Wilmore has posted a first- and fourth-place finish and has recorded five of his six rounds in red numbers. His only round that wasn't under par was a one-over-par 72 in the first round of the Sam Hall Intercollegiate.
Wilmore's scoring average is 69.3 through his first two tournaments which is a marked improvement over his sophomore season that saw him record a 74.7 average. In 32 rounds of competitive golf for the Bulldogs last season, Wilmore registered only six rounds of even par or better. His top finish last year was a second-place at the Memphis Intercollegiate in the spring.
While posting a record low 10-under-par 206 this week in winning the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate, Wilmore also became the first winner of the event (since 2004) to record three straight rounds under par.
Wilmore will lead the Bulldogs into this weekend's David Toms Intercollegiate hosted by LSU at the University Club on Saturday and Sunday.
