BATON ROUGE - Louisiana Tech will face its stiffest competition of the fall season this weekend when Jeff Parks and the Bulldog golfers head south to compete in the 2012 David Toms Intercollegiate Saturday and Sunday at the University Club.
The nine team field includes eight teams that are ranked in the Top 100 in the latest golfstat.com rankings with seven of the teams ranking higher than the Bulldogs, who come into the weekend event ranked No. 70 in the country.
No. 16 LSU headlines the field followed by No. 41 Tulsa, No. 50 Lamar, No. 53 Ole Miss, No. 61 UAB, No. 62 Mississippi State, No. 68 South Alabama, Tech and No. 134 UL-Lafayette.
It's a big event," said Parks, who saw his team finish third at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate a few days ago. "It's one of the strongest fields we will compete in this year. Coming off of (our last) performance even though we fell a little short, we gained some momentum and some confidence. We will go down there and give it all we've got and see what happens."
The two-day tournament will include 36 holes on Saturday and the final 18 holes on Sunday with both days beginning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Tech is paired with South Alabama and Ole Miss during the first day of the event.
The Bulldogs team will be comprised of freshmen Victor Lange and Ben Robinson, juniors Jack Lempke and Travis Wilmore and senior Sam Forgan. Sophomore Chandler Vilcheck will be competing as an individual at the tournament.
