RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech senior golfer Jack Lempke was named an Outstanding Senior Scholar by the Louisiana Tech College of Business this week, honoring the seniors success in the classroom and across campus.
The Outstanding Senior Scholar award is only given to up to 12 individuals each year by the University’s College of Business. To be eligible, a student must have at least a 3.7 cumulative grade point average and be involved in either an on-campus student organization or in volunteer work in the Ruston community.
Lempke, a native of Frisco, Texas, currently has a 3.9 GPA, is co-captain of the LA Tech men’s golf team and serves on the school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
“I am very excited to receive this award,” Lempke said. “I have tried to do well balancing my studies and focusing on golf. It is nice to be recognized for the hard work I have put in over the last four years. I am glad I have had the opportunity to achieve success in multiple areas here at Louisiana Tech.”
Lempke was the program’s first player to be named the Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and has been an Academic All-WAC honoree over the last three years. He has a chance to receive his fourth consecutive academic all-conference honor and second in two leagues as a member of Conference USA this season.
“Jack is a great example of what we look for in student-athletes in our program,” head coach Jeff Parks said. “He has proved himself in the classroom, he has proved himself on the golf course and he has proved himself in the community. It is great to see one of our golfers get recognized for all the hard work he has put in and success he has seen during his time at Tech.”
Louisiana Tech returns to action on Oct. 21-22 as the Bulldogs host the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant.
