Tech Golfers 12th at Baylor Invitational
WACO, Texas – Louisiana Tech shot a final round team total of 298 Tuesday to finish 12th at the 2005 Baylor Invitational at the 7,233-yard, par-72 Bear Ridge Golf Club.
Baylor junior Jeremy Alcorn fired a final-round, 4-under par 68 to tie for individual medalist honors and the host team blistered the course with a score of 9-under par 279 to claim the team title.
“We improved every round as a team,” said Tech head coach Jean Hall. “The conditions of the course changed from Sunday’s practice round to Monday because of the wind and rain but they changed for everybody. We just didn’t adjust well.
“This was by far the strongest field we’ve competed against this fall. There were some really strong teams at this tournament. It was a good experience for us. Every week we are trying to get a little better and better. There is no substitution for experience.”
Senior Logan Riester led the Bulldogs, finishing tied for 35th overall with a three-round total of 225 (75-73-77). Taylor Gregg (78-73-75=226) finished tied for 43rd, Chad Bailey (78-79-74=231) tied for 59th, Trey McNeill (82-79-75=236) tied for 70th and Corey Bartlett (76-87-74=237) tied for 73rd.
After shooting an opening round total of 307, the Bulldogs improved every round, firing a team total of 304 in the second round and then Tuesday’s 298.
“I really think Taylor Gregg is improving for us and is playing some good golf,” Hall said. “Logan continues to be our leader.”
Louisiana Tech will host the Squire Creek Invitational Monday and Tuesday at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant.
