Jan. 17, 2009
HOUSTON, Texas-- Louisiana Tech's men's and women's indoor track and field teams each had solid top ten finishes this weekend in the 2009 Leonard Hilton Memorial Track Meet hosted by the University of Houston.
"I felt like it was a very successful season opener for us," Louisiana Tech head coach Gary Stanley said. "We didn't have a full squad and a lot of our athletes weren't competing in their specialties. We competed against good competition and I'm very pleased with the results heading into the University of Arkansas tournament."
Louisiana Tech's women's team ended the meet with a fourth place finish out of 19 teams behind Rice University who finished first and the men's team finished seventh out of 18 teams behind a Rice men's team who placed first in the meet.
The Lady Techsters were highlighted by the women's 4X400 relay team which finished first with a time of 3:49.75 ahead of two University of Texas relay teams who finished second and third.
Sophomore Quatisha Williams also took a first place finish in the women's triple jump with a mark of 12.15m
Junior Antoinette Cobb took home a third place finish in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.59.
On the men's side the Bulldogs were led by sophomores Jonathan Keys and Billy Walker. Keys brought home a first place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 15.12m while Walker won the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.00.
The men's distance medley relay had a fourth place finish with a time of 10:31.67 due in large part to a well run leg by Senior Kinsey Dinnel.
The men's 4X400 relay team finished fifth with a time of 3:22.89 and Larry Jones took home a fifth place finish in the weight throw with a throw of 15.37m.
Louisiana Tech returns to action Jan. 23 when they head to Fayetteville, Ark. for the University of Arkansas Razorback Invitational.
