Track and Field Heads to Arkansas
Jan. 22, 2009
RUSTON--Louisiana Tech's track and field team will continue the 2009 indoor season as they travel to the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville to compete in the Razorback Invitational, Jan. 23-24, at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
"We're very excited to be able to go to the University of Arkansas to compete," Louisiana Tech head coach Gary Stanley said. "We'll be competing on a world class indoor track against perennial powerhouses such as Arkansas and Oklahoma so there should be some impressive races. All of our athletes will be competing in their specialties this weekend as opposed to last week so it will be interesting to see how they do."
Alabama, Baylor, Georgia Tech, Iowa, Mississippi State, North Texas, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, Southern, TCU and Tulsa will all be competing with the Bulldogs this weekend along with Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Louisiana Tech is coming off a strong season opener at the Lincoln Hilton Memorial in Houston, Texas in which the women finished 4th out of 19 teams and the men's team finished 7th out of 18 teams with most of the athletes not competing in their specialty events.
Junior Antoinette Cobb took home a third place finish in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.59 which also earned her Western Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week.
The women's 4X400 relay team finished first last week with a time of 3:49.75 ahead of two University of Texas relay teams who finished second and third.
Sophomore Quatisha Williams also took a first place finish in the women's triple jump with a mark of 39' 10.5".
On the men's side the Bulldogs were led by sophomores Jonathan Keys and Billy Walker. Keys brought home a first place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 49' 7.25" while Walker won the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.00.
The men's distance medley relay had a fourth place finish with a time of 10:31.67 due in large part to a well run leg by Senior Kinsey Dinnel.
The men's 4X400 relay team finished fifth with a time of 3:22.89 and Larry Jones took home a fifth place finish in the weight throw with a throw of 50' 5.25".
Events are set to start at 11:00 a.m. Friday.
